Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps & Energy Grants

Because of our relatively mild climate, Air-to-Water Heat Pumps can be an ideal solution as a heat source for Irish homes. Such heat pumps operate broadly similar to a refrigerator but in reverse. Heat Pumps can be very efficient in providing space and domestic hot water heating requirements. But to ensure reasonable running costs the heat loss from the fabric of a house needs to be determined - Heat Loss Indicator or HLI.

If the HLI is equal to or less than 2.00 then the house would be regarded as “heat pump ready” and would be eligible for an SEAI heat pump grant of €6,500.

A Technical Assessment is required to determine the HLI of a house and to identify the measures necessary to reduce the HLI to below 2.00.
